I hate this double standard stuff. The UDA/UVF are thought to be responsible for those shootings and yet THEIR political counterparts are allowed to remain at the negotiating table like nothing happened. And yet, if the IRA had done similarly, then, would Sinn Fein still be there.....my guess is NO!!!

UDP TO REMAIN AT PEACE TALKS
01/09/98 13:17 EST

The Ulster Democratic Party has confirmed it will be taking
part in peace talks at Stormont when they resume on Monday.
The decision was taken by the party after a meeting this
afternoon with Ulster Freedom Fighter (UFF) prisoners at the
Maze prison near Belfast. Earlier the prisoners held a
ground-breaking meeting with Britain's Northern Ireland
Secretary Mo Mowlam.

She held extensive talks with the UFF and UDA (UDP aligned)
prisoners who earlier this week voted to withdraw their
support from the peace process. She also met Ulster
Volunteer Force (Progressive Unionist Party aligned) and IRA
prisoners.

Gary McMichael, leader of the Ulster Democratic Party which
represents UFF prisoners, said a planned meeting with UFF
leaders outside the prison was now not necessary. He said
that the decision taken today was not to be squandered.
"The message is to seize the opportunity now while it
exists, to use this breathing space that has been given to
us."

Earlier Mowlam emerged from the prison optimistic that
progress was made. She apologised for any distress caused to
the families of paramilitary victims.
